# Apps

Deploy an interactive web app, such as a dashboard, from your project.

Deploy an interactive web app, such as a dashboard, a data exploration tool or a model demo, from your notebook.

## Frameworks

| Framework     | Best for                                                                     |
| ------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Streamlit** | Dashboards, data exploration tools and user-facing interfaces |
| **Gradio** | Model demos and interactive interfaces, with the interface generated for you |
| **Dash** | Interactive data visualization and analytics apps |

For anything else, use a **Custom** deployment with your own code and run command.

## Deploying an app

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Create what the app needs in the notebook

Create the data, models and other variables your app will use in notebook blocks.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Choose the framework

Open **Deploy** and choose **Streamlit**, **Gradio** or **Dash** under **Web Applications**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Write the app

Write your app's code. To use a variable from the notebook, use `variable()` with the block's name and the variable's name:

```python
from zerve import variable
employees = variable("employee_data", "employees")
```

{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Configure and preview

Set the **DNS name** and **instance type**, then start a preview to try the app in **Web Preview**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Deploy

Select **Deploy**. When the status shows **Active**, the app is live at its address.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

See [Deployments overview](/zerve-docs/ship-your-work/shipping.md) for settings, instance types and costs.

## Simple apps inside a project

For a simple app that doesn't need deploying, use [input and output blocks](/zerve-docs/notebooks/blocks/ui-blocks.md) in the project itself.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.zerve.ai/zerve-docs/ship-your-work/apps.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
