# Quickstart: your first superagent

Create your first superagent, review its plan and watch it start work.

In this quickstart, you'll describe a mission, review the plan a superagent drafts for it, and watch it start work. It takes a few minutes to set up; the superagent then keeps working in the background.

{% hint style="info" %}
If you don't see **Superagents** in the product switcher, it may not be enabled for your organization yet. Contact your Zerve administrator.
{% endhint %}

## Before you start

A superagent plans against what already exists in your organization, so it helps to set up a few things first:

* Any [data connections](/zerve-docs/data-and-assets/connections.md) the work will need, such as your data warehouse
* Any [constants and secrets](/zerve-docs/data-and-assets/constants-and-secrets.md), such as API keys for data providers
* Any [skills](/zerve-docs/agents-in-the-workspace/skills.md) that describe how your team likes work done

You can add these later, and the superagent will ask for them if it needs them.

## 1. Describe your mission

1. Open the product switcher and choose **Superagents**.
2. On the home page, under **What would you like me to work on?**, describe the role or mission you'd like the superagent to own. Write it the way you'd say it out loud.
3. Select **Start**.

If you're not sure what to write, select one of the **Try this:** examples, such as **Quantitative research**, to fill in a sample mission you can edit.

{% hint style="success" %}
**A good mission describes an outcome, not a task list.** For example: "Every week, work out which factors drove our portfolio's returns, flag any exposure outside its usual range, and send me a short briefing on what moved and why." The superagent works out the steps.
{% endhint %}

## 2. Wait for the plan

The superagent drafts a plan from your mission. While it works, the screen shows what it's thinking about.

The plan is deliberately focused. It usually proposes one objective, sometimes two or three, starting with the cheapest step that tests whether the approach will work, rather than a large build.

## 3. Review and edit the plan

When the plan is ready, you'll see **Here is what I plan to do**. Your mission is shown for reference, followed by what the superagent proposes. You can:

* Edit, add or remove objectives. Select **Add a step** to add one.
* Set the autonomy level for each objective: **Ask me first**, **Balanced** or **Full autonomy**. See [Objectives, KPIs and autonomy](/zerve-docs/superagents/objectives-kpis-and-autonomy.md).
* Edit the KPIs that measure success.
* Remove any proposed schedules you don't want.
* Read any decisions the superagent needs from you, such as connecting a data source.

## 4. Approve and start

Select **Approve & start**. The superagent becomes active, its schedules start, and a conversation opens where it tells you what it's starting on first. Then it gets to work, for example by assigning the first task to a worker or running a first research pass.

## 5. Watch it work

The superagent's page has three tabs:

* **Overview** shows what it's working on, progress against objectives, decisions waiting for you, credit usage, its backlog and recent activity.
* **Map** shows its team as a chart. Select any team member to see what it's doing, or open its notebook to inspect its work.
* **Outputs** lists everything the team has produced.

The **Zerve AI** panel on the right holds your conversations with the superagent. Ask it anything, such as "What's blocked or waiting on me?" See [Monitor a superagent](/zerve-docs/superagents/monitor-a-superagent.md).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.zerve.ai/zerve-docs/getting-started/quickstart-superagent.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
